Queensland Art Gallery

Queensland Art Gallery

Explore our two vibrant galleries, Queensland Art Gallery is Queensland's premier visual arts institution and a leading art museum nationally.

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA)

The Gallery was established in 1895 as the Queensland National Art Gallery. Throughout its early history the Gallery was housed in a series of temporary premises, and did not have a permanent home until the opening of its current architecturally acclaimed building on Brisbane's south bank in 1982.

The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is a single institution located across two adjacent river-side buildings in the Cultural Precinct at Brisbane's South Bank. Our vision is to be the leading institution for the contemporary art of Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

QAGOMA holds a Collection of over 17,000 works of historical, modern and contemporary art, and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. We are home to the Children's Art Centre which collaborates on interactive artworks with leading artists from around the world, and the Australian Cinematheque, the only dedicated cinema facility in an Australian art museum.

To ensure all Queenslanders have access to the Collection, travelling exhibitions tour to regional and remote centres of the state.

ADMISSION

Entry to QAGOMA is free. This includes most exhibitions, screenings and programs. Some exhibitions and special events have an entry fee and tickets can be purchased online or on site at the ticket desk.

Entry to the Children's Art Centre is always free.

The Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) are located 150 metres from each other, on the south bank of the Brisbane River. Entrance to both buildings is possible from Stanley Place, and the river front entrance to the Queensland Art Gallery is on Melbourne Street. The Galleries are within easy walking distance to the city centre and South Bank Parklands.

Open 7 Days:

Closed Christmas Day & Good Friday | Open from 12 Noon ANZAC Day
