Google in it's wisdom, sends ALERTS to publishers, website owners and webmasters alerting them to isssue GoogleBot has found on its website.
Everyone knows how much we love Google, but they do make us laugh.
Google loves helping it's partners with alerts that need fixing. Two that pop up on our radar reguarly are Missing ads.txt file and Page indexing issues.
ads.txt
Authorized Digital Sellers, or ads.txt ensures that digital ad inventory is only sold through authorized sellers.
ads.txt - a never ending list of "missing" files. Only problem is, they are not missing. Poor ol' GoogleBot for whatever reason can't see them. Once in March 2024, every site was 'authrorized', only to revert to 5 missing files a month later, and this hasn't changed ever since. Frustratingly, the files seem to appear and then disappear over time.
We'll leave it to you.. below are our current "missing" files. I've linked each one to it's file. Let us know if one is missing?
Earnings at risk - You need to fix some ads.txt file issues to avoid severe impact to your revenue.
Publishers receive email alerts about issues GoogleBot finds. The image above is a typical list.
We attempt to resolve a never-ending list of issues, but realistically, trying to fix 6,084 reported issues is frankly impossible. The process of resolving issues, one at a time is time consuming and unrealistic,
We'd love to see ways to speed up the process. Select all check boxes to DISMISS issues.
There is a Google Search Central Community that tries to help but all we hear is "don't worry about the issues, its just Google trying to help you".
SiteMap
Why doesn't Google (and BING) place more emphasis and weight on a users sitemap? Specially when its updated reguarly.
Frustratingly, each one of our websites has a live SITE MAP. It is updated regularly and bad links fixed as they appear. Why tell me about a missing page that existed 8 years ago or a bad link from a 3rd party website when I am telling you about pages that DO EXIST?
